The discussion of technology in the classroom, particularly for second language instruction, looks at: current practices in technology-enhanced schoolrooms or learning centers; benefits and liabilities of technology-mediated language learning; and the as yet unrealized promise of computer-assisted language learning for the student and the teacher. A brief introductory section chronicles the history of the digital revolution. Current practices in a number of areas are then described, including the teaching of composition as a process, multiple learning styles and individualized learning, the role of authentic language in language learning and in content-based learning, collaborative and task- based learning, and the role of cognition in language learning.
