In three lectures, Benjamin D. Wright of the University of Chicago introduces the Rasch model and its basic concepts. The first lecture, March 30, 1994 discusses the model created by Georg Rasch, a Danish mathematician, which Dr. Wright initially saw as merely a way to make raw scores into measures. Eventually, the model developed into a philosophy of science. Wright emphasizes the importance of the relationship between observation and measurement and considers the properties of the Rasch model, including its probabilistic nature. The second lecture, produced on June 24, 1988, deals with the mathematics of the Rasch model in more detail. The third presentation on this cassette is titled "Measurement Rasch Model and MicroScale--Analyzing Market Research Data." The first section of this lecture deals with overall Rasch measurement concepts, and the second part shows the application of the results of the Microscale program to data from a children's attitude survey.
