This document presents papers from a conference held in November 1995 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, convened by the Education Policy Unit (EPU) of the University of Natal as part of research concerning the provision of library-based resources for school learners. Following an introduction are two chapters: "Identifying the Inherited Problems in the Provision of Resources for School Learners" (Jenni Karlsson, Mary Nassimbeni, and Cathy-Mae Karelse) and "Barriers and Limitations to the Provision of Library Resources to Learners" (Jenni Karlsson). The next section, "International Experiences," contains the following papers: "A State-Wide Network of School Community Libraries in Rural South Australia" (Vanessa Little); "A Fully Integrated Community and School Library in Sweden" (Christina Stenberg); "Basic Information Science: Bridging the Gap in Namibia" (Alet Marais); and "Brazil's Experiences with Mobile Libraries" (Walda de Andrade Antunes). The next section, "Alternative Models Being Explored in South Africa," consists of the following papers: "The School Community Library Concept" (Sophie le Roux); "Structured Public Library Information Services to School Learners" (Dorothy Bothman); "Classroom Libraries" (Cynthia Hugo); "Education Development Centers" (Manfred Schroen); and "The Virtual Library" (Sandra Olen).
