Continuing Education Strategies for Attention Deficit Disorders: Final Report.
Ramirez, Bruce
This final report describes the activities and accomplishments of a 3-year project to enhance the knowledge and skills of special and general educators as well as parents of children having attention deficit disorder through the development of training materials and workshops. Over 15 professional development activities on the topic of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were conducted, ranging from 1-hour discussion sessions to multiple-day training workshops, involving approximately 700 participants. The project was able to collaborate with organizational units of the Council for Exceptional Children, its professional development program, and its dissemination channels. Collaboration with the National Association of Elementary School Principals also provided an important avenue of dissemination. The project developed a training manual with modules on: ADHD characteristics and identification, model school programs, effective classroom interventions, and policy/administrative issues. Workshops presented throughout the country and attended by representatives from every state were very positively evaluated by participants. Appendices include the training manual, the workshop evaluation form, and the contents page of a special issue on attention deficit disorder of the journal "Exceptional Children". Examples of other dissemination products are attached. (DB)
