This guide is intended to provide practical information for principals concerning students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Chapter 1 provides an overview of ADHD, describing the range of symptoms and answering commonly asked questions. Chapter 2 discusses the legalities of ADHD, including special education laws and the options available for providing services to students with ADHD. Chapter 3 is on evaluation of students for ADHD and provides more than 20 forms and checklists to guide the process. Chapter 4 points out possible treatment options, describes the most commonly prescribed medications, and evaluates alternative types of treatment. Chapter 5 focuses on ways to work effectively with classroom teachers by providing instructional strategies, interventions, and accommodations for use with students with ADHD. Chapter 6 offers suggestions for working with the parents of students with ADHD.
