The Wisconsin Developmental Guidance Model: A Resource and Planning Guide for School-Community Teams. Bulletin No. 9815.
Schutt, Donald A., Jr.; Brittinghars, Kenneth V.; Perrone, Philip A.; Bilzing, Deborah; Thompson, Michael J.
Comprehensive developmental guidance programs systematically address students' personal/social, learning, and career development needs. The evolution and implementation of a comprehensive guidance program in Wisconsin is presented in this booklet. The volume's purpose is not to define the role of individuals, but rather to keep the focus on students' needs. The text opens with background information, featuring an overview of the manual and a brief discussion of developmental guidance within the framework of comprehensive counseling services. The relationship between developmental guidance and school counseling programs is also covered. Chapter 1 outlines the role of developmental guidance in student development--focusing on student programs, adult programs, and family and school connections. Chapter 2 contains an expanded vision for developmental guidance supported by the Wisconsin Developmental Guidance Model. Chapter 3 details the revised model, and chapter 4 includes suggested strategies to evaluate programs in a systematic plan of action, including the participation of all stakeholders. In chapter 5, the career portfolio demonstrates the nine competencies in action. The appendices further clarify the role of the school counselor and include sample classroom activities and activities for parents, as well as a list of resources for districts as they develop their comprehensive developmental guidance programs.
