Safety in the Artroom.
Qualley, Charles A.
This book provides information about health and safety hazards in art classrooms. The book outlines a practical plan for an art room safety program. It includes recommendations for providing protective equipment and enlisting students' active participation. Included are sample worksheets and checklists, explanations of legal liability, and suggestions for winning the cooperation of administrators and parents. In each of the three parts of the book, potential problems are identified and solutions suggested. The chapters in part 1, "Overview: Problems and Answers," encourage teachers to become aware of potential hazards and take preventative measures to avoid injuries, accidents, or adverse reactions to materials. Part 2, "A Closer Look," offers detailed information about specific health hazards, safety hazards, and hazards of common art activities. Part 3, "Curriculum and Legal Concerns," looks at the cooperation needed between the teacher, school administration, and community in order to bring about safe conditions, and at the legal implications of artroom hazards. Contains an appendix, a bibliography, and an index. (MM)
