This paper describes the author's views on and approach to teaching about educational technology. The author teaches concepts, with an emphasis on "teaching about" rather than "teaching how". The author's educational background and experiences, and their influence on his current views are described. While the definitions of educational technology have changed fairly frequently in the past 30 years, the concepts that make up those definitions have not changed. As a result, it is important to teach primary concepts of educational technology, because those concepts have been around a long time and are at the root of most of what goes on in the field. The paper also describes an in-class activity in which students learn about educational technology concepts by identifying the five stages in the instructional development process--analysis, design, production/prototype/development, implementation, and evaluation--and discussing the different concepts, tasks, procedures, and ideas that can occur during the different stages.
