Assessing General Education. A Questionnaire To Initiate Campus Conversations.
Meacham, Jack
This questionnaire is intended to help college faculty and administrators assess the adequacy of the general education curriculum and determine the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed by students, and as a tool for program evaluation, innovation, and implementation. It can also be used by college and university students to assess and compare campus experiences and core curriculum issues. The questionnaire contains 28 statements descriptive of general education programs and respondents are asked to rank them vis-a-vis their schools on a scale of 1 to 5. Questions cover such areas as goals, institutional mission, student understanding, global perspectives, multiculturalism, student experience, student differences, articulation, faculty experience, faculty-student interactions, coordination, disciplinary links, faculty development, co-curricular activities, course evaluation, and quality. Appended to the report is a list of additional source material relevant to each of the questions. (CH)
