This book describes the program Active Citizenship Today (ACT), a hands-on learning project to make learning come alive for students and integrate student learning with the larger community. This handbook accompanies the student book, "The ACT Field Guide." The book is divided into two sections with six chapters. Section 1, "The Whats and Whys of ACT," contains the chapters: (1) "All about ACT"; (2) "The Elements of ACT"; and (3) "The ACT Framework." Section 2, "The Hows of ACT," includes the chapters: (1) "Practical Hints for Implementing ACT"; (2) "Ideas, Strategies, and Suggestions"; and (3) "Lesson Plans" containing 14 lesson plans with handouts.
