America's "Spelling and Reading with Riggs": Self-Study Course, for Groups or Individuals. [Audiotape.]
McCulloch, Myrna
This set of two audiotapes and enclosed course outline comprise a self-study course that offers an alternative to instructor-directed introductory classes on using Roma Spalding's "Writing Road to Reading" program and auxiliary printed materials published by the Riggs Institute. Material on the audiotapes is designed to require listeners to integrate and thoroughly read the auxiliary printed materials. After an introductory section, sections of the audiotapes address expectation for student performance; overview and rationale of the Orton/Spaulding/Riggs method; teaching procedures; letter formation; helping the hard-to-teach child; testing phonograms; scope and sequence; the extended Ayres List; preliminary instructions to begin dictation; blending and reading of isolated words; spelling lessons; introducing grammar and vocabulary development; sequencing the balance of the course; and administrator's section review.
