SchoolTech Activities Handbook: Successful, User-friendly Lessons and Units.
Franklin, Jennie A. Johnson
The SchoolTech initiative, a state-funded pilot project, was designed to empower teachers to develop innovative approaches to academic and extracurricular activities using technology. Elementary and secondary schools (n=10) in North Carolina were provided with hardware and software that had the capability of accessing Internet resources. Teachers explored resources for numerous content areas and collaborated with their counterparts across the state, region, country, and world. Project participants developed interdisciplinary and staff development activities; these are contained in this handbook. The activities are user-friendly, can be adapted for use at many grade levels, and are presented in a progressive order, according to the grade level for which they are appropriate. For each, the following information is provided: activity title; author; school, including address and phone number; subject areas; grade level; North Carolina Course of Study Goals; background information/pre-lesson instruction; materials/equipment/technology; instructional strategies/procedures; student evaluation; follow-up activities; and suggestions for replication. Some worksheets, handouts, and instructional booklets are also included. Appendices contain school site addresses; technology plan; the multi-tasking classroom and typical unit; Internet resource addresses; and acceptable use policies. (AEF)
