This guide is designed to serve as a resource document for business educators that can be adapted to reflect the individual needs of schools and communities. It is intended to assist them as they assume a major role in providing information about the program to guidance counselors, school administrators, teachers, parents, representatives from the business community, and others. The guide contains 13 sections: (1) curriculum (key content areas for elementary through postsecondary students; curriculum framework; sequencing competencies/courses; 19 course descriptions; articulation; delivery systems; and business partnerships); (2) supervised business experience programs; (3) assessment section (systems of student and program evaluation, sample competency profile); (4) requirements and procedures for vocational business programs; (5) certification (secondary, vocational, applied academic); (6) professional development (including professional organizations); (7) student organizations; (8) promoting business education; (9) program advisory councils; (10) counseling and guidance services; (11) equity for special populations and for all students; (12) resources for business educators (names, addresses, and descriptions of 13 resource organizations); and (13) funding sources. Appendixes include the following: student organization chapters, tech prep coordinators, statements of the Policies Commission on Business and Economic Education, business teacher education programs, area vocational schools, and sample forms.
