Taking Time To Act: A Guide to Cross-Curricular Drama.
Ball, Chris; Airs, John
Based on the idea that drama (a medium that children relish and are good at) offers a context and a powerful motivation for learning, this book is intended for the teacher who wants to use drama in the classroom for its own sake or as a tool in other areas of the curriculum. The book looks at the many common concerns teachers have and offers suggestions about setting aside a time and a place for drama; using drama to counter thoughtless and hateful stereotypes; and using drama to enhance not only literature but also math, science, social studies, and history. Following a prologue which defines drama in education, the book is divided into sections on (1) Drama in School: The Stage You're at; (2) Teacher's Tool Kit; (3) Managing a Drama: The Principles, The Process, The Techniques; (4) Formulating a School Drama Policy; and (5) Drama in Action. An epilogue and a select bibliography conclude the book. Extensive illustrations and photographs in the book help to bridge the gap between theory and practice. (NKA)
