Activities are presented to help adolescents understand and accept themselves and become more understanding and accepting of others. They are designed to assist the young person in feeling a sense of control over his or her life in the school situation, and to help the adolescent fulfill his or her potential in school. Some of the activities review the purposes and legal requirements for education, and others discuss different types of school structures and systems. Some are designed to make the school day go more smoothly, with discussions of different types of teachers and peer behavior. Others are meant to encourage academic achievement and to help the adolescent maximize his or her own abilities through time management and study techniques. The importance of extracurricular activities and developing a well-rounded lifestyle are highlighted, and a final activity discusses ways to educate oneself beyond the classroom. (SLD)
