Kansas Services for Students with Dual Sensory Impairments Project. Final Report.
Kansas State Board of Education, Topeka.
This final report describes activities and accomplishments of the Kansas Services for Students with Dual Sensory Impairments Project, a project focusing on: (1) provision of services to infants, toddlers, children, and youth with deaf-blindness; and (2) technical assistance to public and private agencies, institutions, and organizations serving this population. The project provided technical assistance regarding effective practices related to the education of these students; provided specialized training for personnel working with children from birth to age 2; developed a portfolio tracking system to facilitate the documentation of student accomplishments and needed adaptations over time; provided transition services; coordinated activities with appropriate agencies and service organizations; and made available resources and activities for parents and families of these children and youth. A significant impact on both the quality and quantity of comprehensive service provision was documented for 98 children and youth with deaf-blindness in Kansas. The project is described in terms of its purpose; goals and objectives; conceptual framework; accomplishments; departures from original objectives and activities; findings; impact; products; and dissemination activities.
