Integrating Technology into Teacher Education at the American University.

This paper reports on a project to integrate technology into several courses in the teacher education program at the American University, District of Columbia. The project was divided into four phases. Phase 1 was a needs assessment, looking at the technological skills of current teacher education students. Phase 2 explored developing and implementing curricular changes and integrating computers into existing courses. Phase 3 examined dissemination of the results of the study through presentations and publications. Phase 4 focused on future plans for development, addressing issues such as gender equity and access for the disabled, advanced topics in programming, hardware configuration and maintenance, and the development and use of multi-media presentations. Appendices, comprising the bulk of the document, include a student questionnaire, class schedules and descriptions, sample lessons, a computer analysis checklist, course syllabi, a guide to education software, and a grant proposal for funding further study.
