Statistics related to education in Maryland are presented in this booklet of tables. The first chart presents some selected statistics about the educational community in the whole state. In 1993-94, the education budget was approximately $4.66 billion, and the estimated cost per pupil was $6,250. Public school enrollment in 1993 was 771,377 and private school enrollment was 151,481. Other tables present information about student characteristics, including the racial composition of the student body. Dropout and graduation rates are summarized, and information is given on such outcomes as standardized test results. The public school students of Maryland are served by 45,168 teachers. Information is presented about teacher educational background and characteristics. Other tables present information about educational finance in Maryland. The booklet provides information about specific educational areas, including special education and vocational education. Some data are summarized about services related to education, such as public libraries and food service programs. One table ranks Maryland among the states on a number of indicators.
