These two documents include information about the students, student performance, staffing, and financing of public schools in Texas. The annual summary, in conjunction with the separately published "Texas Public School Statistics: Pocket Edition 1992-93," provides a detailed look at public education in Texas. "Supplement '93," which contains additional student performance information about testing in the spring of 1992-93, is available for the first time. "Snapshot '93" begins with an examination of state-level data and concludes with detailed information about each school district. The statistical highlights of the state section discuss administrative units, student performance, staff, and finances for the current year and include historical trends. The detailed statistics section summarizes 88 data items for groups of school districts categorized by size, by rural versus urban classification, and by tax effort, property wealth per pupil, and Education Service Center region. Performance of Texas public school students showed modest improvement in 1992-93, but data indicate that great disparities in performance among disadvantaged and ethnic minority students persist. "Snapshot '93" contains 26 exhibits and 257 pages of detailed statistics in tabular form. Five appendices contain: (1) item definitions; (2) data sources; (3) a bibliography; (4) end notes; and (5) school districts listed alphabetically.
