UCCSN Student Financial Aid Study, 1992-1993.

To gather data on trends in financial aid, the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN) conducted a study of aid awarded to students in 1992-93 and compared findings to data from previous years. Study findings revealed the following: (1) financial aid awards to UCCSN students totaled $51,301,498, an increase of 17.8% from 1991-92; (2) of the $51 million awarded, $29,517,514 (58%) was federal assistance, $12,315,554 (24%) was state assistance, $9,059,209 (18%) was from private sources, and $409,221 (1%) was institutional assistance; (3) $8,093,340 of the 1992-93 aid was in the form of student employment, including graduate assistant wages; (4) the 4 community colleges in the system expended $6,110,429 in student financial assistance, of which federal assistance comprised $5,101,303 (83%), state aid comprised $647,599 (10%), private aid accounted for $290,467 (5%), and institutional assistance totaled $71,060 (1%); (5) the two universities in the UCCSN expended a total of $45,191,069 in student financial assistance of which $24,416,211 (54%) was federal aid, $11,667,955 (26%) was state assistance, $8,768,742 (19%) was from private sources, and $338,161 (1%) was institutional assistance; (6) the percentage of federal aid in the form of grants dropped from 27% in 1991-92 to 25% in 1992-93 at universities, while at community colleges the percentage remained constant at 72%; (7) in 1992-93, 50% of the financial aid went to need-based funds; and (8) out of the 7,186 students who applied for aid, only 3,836 received it.
