Pennsylvania Adult and Continuing Education Research Conference Annual Proceedings (2nd, Indiana, Pennsylvania, September 30, 1995).
Ferro, Trenton R., Ed.; Dean, Gary J., Ed.
These proceedings contain 11 refereed papers and 2 symposia in which researchers and practitioners share research findings focusing on the link between research and practice in adult, continuing, and community education. "Literacy Skill Standards for the Workplace" (Eunice N. Askov) summarizes efforts leading toward voluntary industry skill standards. "Promoting a 'Culture of Learning' through Creative Self-Expression" (Irene C. Baird) describes a replication of a humanities-oriented model with incarcerated women. "Job Satisfaction and Creativity in the Workplace" (Kathleen L. Cowles) reports results indicating a strong relationship between these variables. "Adult Development--An Integrative Model for Practice" (Trenton R. Ferro) proposes a model that integrates the findings of studies into adult development and proposes uses and implications suggested by that model. "Education and Training in the Virtual Office" (Irene C. Habermann) explores where and whether there is a need for training and the best way of conducting it. "Social Capital and Education" (Carole B. Karinshak) argues that the learning experiences of adults are affected by their segregation as children into groups according to socioeconomic status. "Planning for Change" (Kathleen P. King) explores implications of transformational learning for adult education program development. "The Goodwill Literacy Initiative Evaluated as a Pilot Project Integrating 'JTPA' Policies" (Christine Mollick) reports findings of a study of factors that enhance retention. "Distance Delivery of Graduate-Level Teacher Education" (Melody M. Thompson) proposes that distance education has the potential to offer results beyond those of traditional settings. "Literacy and the Learning Process" (Roberta Uhland) describes learning strategies selected by low-literate adults engaged in self-directed learning. "The Practical Needs of Non-Traditional Women in Higher Education" (Suzanne C. Watson) identifies six areas of practical needs. The symposia are "Internationalism in Continuing and Distance Education" (Jeri L. Childers et al.) and "Why Are We Not Doing Research?" (Patricia Lawler, Trenton R. Ferro). All refereed papers contain references. (YLB)
