These Congressional hearings contain testimony regarding options for restructuring the federal employment and training system. Representatives of the following agencies and organizations provided testimony at the hearings: National Commission on Employment Policy; Health, Education and Human Services Division, Education and Employment Issues, U.S. General Accounting Office; Employment, Housing, and Aviation Subcommittee; Minnesota Teamster Service Bureau; and New York State Job Training Partnership Council. Among the topics discussed during the hearings were the following: duplication of services by existing programs; benefits and drawbacks of consolidating existing federal programs; the availability and adequacy of information about the outcomes and effectiveness of individual programs; efforts directed toward comprehensive planning and programming from 1960-1994; ways in which selected legislative proposals address concerns regarding multiple federal employment training programs; the state of New York's GATEWAY initiative and Workforce Preparation Evaluation Act; and efforts of the Minnesota Teamsters Service Bureau to assist dislocated workers, improve workplace literacy, and prepare tomorrow's workers.
