The generic workplace curricula in this document were developed in a workplace education project conducted in Pima County, Arizona, which served 524 workers (58 percent from minority groups) at 14 worksites. Generic curriculum and competencies were developed for each subject area rather than each specific worksite. Of 374 workers who completed the classes 208 tested higher in basic skills, 143 improved their communication skills, and all documented increases in self-esteem. This report contains the generic workplace curricula and competencies developed for the following courses: English as a second language, reading, writing, mathematics fundamentals, mathematics for statistical process control, algebra, communication and listening, and problem solving.
