Let's Get On with the Job. A Job Search Manual for the ESL Classroom.
Pinton, Rae; Strong, Irene
This manual is designed for use by both teachers and students in an English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) job-search skills program, and is intended for use by students at the upper beginner or lower intermediate language proficiency level. The content can be used as a complete job search skills program, a resource for program development, a supplement to existing programs, or a resource in the regular ESL classroom. The material can be covered in a 4-week intensive course. There are five modules that lead the student through the logical progression of a job search: self-assessment description; preparing a resume; methods of finding jobs; application form and applying; and preparing for the interview. Each module contains a number of units and/or sub-units (lessons) on specific subtopics. Experience suggests that the first two modules are taught best simultaneously, as are the third and fourth. Appended materials include glossaries containing vocabulary from application forms and want ads translated into 14 languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovak, Spanish, Vietnamese) and an annotated bibliography of useful additional materials.
