A Taste of English: Nutrition Workbook for Adult ESL Students. Teacher's Manual.

This workbook introduces basic concepts of nutrition and health to beginning adult students of English as a Second Language (ESL). The text may also be adapted for use with new readers. It is intended as a supplement to existing instructional materials. An introductory section offers teachers suggestions for use of the text and notes on the design and content of each lesson, including vocabulary lists, specification of structures and language functions, a lesson overview, and specific objectives and procedures. A simple recipe is included with most lessons. This section also includes pages that can be cut into small cards illustrating various foods. The student workbook, containing eight nutrition lessons, follows. Lesson topics include: healthy nutritional practices; understanding how the body works; variety in diet; creating healthy meals; keeping foods safe; smart shopping; eating well to stay healthy; and getting help when needed.
