This directory is an expansion and update of a 1992 edition that cataloged 205 people of color environmental groups. This edition lists more than 300 people of color groups from 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico and includes groups in Canada and Mexico. Section I is an introduction to the directory and the method used to collect data on the organizations. Section II outlines the principles of environmental justice and examines the state of the movement nationally and internationally. Section III provides eight vignettes of grassroots action that typify the work of women of color activists. Section IV-VIII, the resource sections of the directory, profile environmental, civil rights, legal groups, and people of color groups in the United States, Canada, and Mexico that are working on environmental and economic justice issues. Organizations listed provide a wide range of technical, research, legal, education, and training support to grassroots groups. An annotated bibliography on environmental justice contains 47 citations limited to resource material for the years 1990-94. An appendix contains data forms used to gather information on the profiled groups. (LZ)
