Quality Standards for Early Childhood Care and Education Services: A Planning Document.
Colorado State Dept. of Education, Denver.
This document is intended to be a self-evaluation tool to assist Colorado early childhood programs in working toward quality services. Eleven sections provide rating criteria on: (1) interaction among staff and children; (2) curriculum; (3) family-staff partnership; (4) staff qualifications and development; (5) administration; (6) staffing patterns; (7) the role and function of the teaching team; (8) physical environment; (9) health and safety; (10) nutrition and food service; and (11) program evaluation. Each criterion is rated on a three-point quality scale (needs improvement, satisfactory, strength), a three-point status scale (current goal, emerging, in place), and a two-point needs scale (technical assistance or resources). An appendix provides information on Colorado's comprehensive training plan for early childhood care and education, professional standards development, a list of resource groups and publication, and a list of relevant definitions.
