Survival Guide for Class and Club Advisers.
Laird, Joanne
The adviser's job is difficult; turnover for new activity directors and class or club advisers is high. This guide was prepared to help new high school advisers face the many demands they will encounter. Although initially prepared with a specific school district in mind, it includes practices, procedures, forms, and ideas that could be used by advisers at any high school. The manual contains seven chapters. Chapter 1 attempts to orient the new adviser by explaining the purpose of high school activities, the benefits of activities, and answers some common questions on student involvement. The second chapter lists some of the qualities that make a good adviser, while chapter 3 outlines the mechanics involved in year-long planning and in individual activity planning. The next chapter gives some general guidelines for getting started. The fifth chapter contains lists of suggested activities for each month of the school year. Chapter 6 explains the guidelines needed for successful fund raising and lists types of fund raising that are possible. The last chapter features numerous activities forms, such as request forms and evaluation forms, which are reproducible. (RJM)
