Evaluation of the Alberta SchoolNet Project.
Alberta Dept. of Education, Edmonton. Policy & Planning Branch.
SchoolNet is a Canadian national program designed to link electronically 300 schools in order to provide access to communications and information technology. Thirty schools in Alberta were selected as pilot sites to develop projects in science, mathematics, or technology which could use resources that enhance student learning experiences. The projects began in January, 1994 and continued until the end of May. School evaluation reports focused on pedagogical approaches, student learning, and achievement of project objectives. This report consists of four parts: a description of the Alberta SchoolNet Project with a focus on expected objectives, procedures, and outcomes; the evaluation context in which the terms of reference and the methodology for evaluation are explained; findings and discussion for the technical, educational, pre-service, in-service, and support components of the project; and recommendations for those components. A table provides SchoolNet Project summaries. Appendices include the location of participating schools in Alberta, a model for the Alberta SchoolNet Connection, and the CA*net "Backbone Configuration" on a map of Canada. (AEF)
