The College-Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) is an achievement test mandated by the state of Florida to assess the communications and mathematics skills of college students in public institutions in Florida. Passing the CLAST is a requirement for an Associate's in Arts degree or entry into upper-level courses. This report presents and analyzes test results for the CLAST in 1991-92. Although performance in that year was substantially above the baselines established in 1982, no consistent improvements have been observed over the past 10 years. Statewide passing rates for the year were: (1) community colleges, 53%; (2) other state public institutions, 68%; and (3) private colleges and universities, 54%. Racial and ethnic differences in CLAST performance are discussed. Recommendations are made for improvement of CLAST results. Twenty tables and 13 figures present test results.
