This publication reports on the general condition of K-12 education in the state of Colorado. It summarizes current efforts to restructure the educational system based on student and national goals, and provides information on Colorado's educational performance, school district personnel, and major state programs. Section 1 describes the need for establishing standards, what they look like, and how they are being set. Section 2 describes the National Education Goals and provides examples of local effort to meet them. The third section offers information on the state's educational performance, including academic achievement, high school graduation rates, and participation in postsecondary education. A school-age demographic profile is offered in the fourth section. Section 5 presents information on educational personnel, including school district employees and teacher certification.
