Developed especially for high school health occupations education programs in Missouri, this guide uses U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules as a base for guidelines for student participation in health care. The document informs administrators and teachers about special circumstances that must be considered in the education and supervision of students. It is intended to be used to inform parents and students of potential risks and as a resource in establishing school policy for clinical practice. The first part of the document establishes the protocol for infection control, including information on establishing school policy, informing students and parents, educating students, evaluating students in clinical sites, and keeping records.
