Designed for use by both parents and professionals who work with young children, this reference work is intended to include all of the major areas in the field of early childhood education. Current topics such as AIDS and computers are addressed, as are more traditional concerns such as family and parenting issues. The book is organized into six topical chapters, which include short essays and lists of resources relating to specific subjects within the main topic. These chapters cover the following: (1) growth and development; (2) social and emotional development; (3) family issues; (4) child care and early education; (5) the expressive and cultural arts; and (6) social policies. The seventh chapter, Services and Information, contains lists of organizations involved in early childhood education, electronic information services, and government agencies.
