Student Enrollments and Completions in the Illinois Community College System. Fiscal Year 1994.

At the close of each fiscal year, the 49 public community colleges of the Illinois Community College System (ICCS) are required to submit detailed student records to the ICCS Board providing data on annual enrollments and completions for credit-generating students. Highlights for fiscal year (FY) 1994 include the following: (1) ICCS institutions enrolled 692,276 students in instructional credit courses, a decrease of 4.4% from the previous year; (2) annual full-time equivalent (FTE) was 228,522, a decrease of 3.9% from FY 1993; (3) the percent of minority students increased slightly (0.3%), even though the number decreased by 3.5%; (4) the median age of students was 27.2, slightly younger than the previous year; (5) three out of four students attended part-time in FY 1994; (6) 27% of students were enrolled in occupational programs, while associate degree nursing was the largest occupational program with 14,797 students; (7) nearly 39,000 degrees and certificates, including 22,500 occupational degrees and certificates, were awarded in FY 1994, a 1.8% increase over FY 1993; (8) females accounted for 60% of all completions; (9) minority students earned 19% of the collegiate-level degrees awarded, comprised 22% of occupational program completers, and accounted for 14% of the total graduates with baccalaureate or transfer degrees; and (10) only 58% of the students who successfully completed baccalaureate/transfer degrees had indicated an intention to transfer to a four-year institution, while only three-fourths completing occupational degrees had indicated that their goal was to earn an associate degree.
