This book is part of a seven-volume series for evaluating programs and services in today's K-12 schools. It details strategies to evaluate staff-development programs, focusing on the use of formative evaluation. Following the introduction, six vignettes illustrating the application of the strategies to real-life experiences are presented. They deal with the following situations: evaluating needs assessment activities; using a staff development advisory committee; applying adult-learning theory to the staff development process; evaluating school district workshops for at-risk students; enhancing multicultural perspectives in a private school; and evaluating self-esteem workshops. Information is presented on how to select an evaluation team, outline its responsibilities, and specify and organize the tasks the team must accomplish. Details are provided on how to design questionnaires, conduct interviews, coordinate focus groups, determine what information to collect, and analyze and interpret the data.
