This participant's manual covers "Changing Times", the second module of a four-module training program for all individuals employed in programs funded by Oklahoma's Developmental Disabilities Services Division. This includes van drivers, recreation workers, residential staff, administrators, case managers, secretarial/clerical staff, vocational staff, advocates, physicians, psychologists, and others. The primary objective of the module is to have the participant understand and apply the principle of normalization to the concepts of rights and values of people with developmental disabilities. Secondary objectives focus on perceptions of individuals with developmental disabilities through various periods of history, congregate settings, legislative rights and other rights, types of abuse and neglect, values of individuals with developmental disabilities, the importance of the principle of normalization for improving public images for people with developmental disabilities as well as promoting their social integration within the community, and methods of recognizing and eliminating barriers to normalization. The module includes the primary and secondary objectives, a text and question format that allows participants to become actively involved in the learning process, information from transparencies used in training, and copies of handouts.
