Science and technology are often presented and taught as two separate essences. When this is done, students as well as teachers are forced to attempt to develop the appropriate linkages. This book is one of a series designed to help teachers develop their science and technological education in ways that are both satisfying to themselves and stimulating to their students. Chapter 1, "Introductions," includes an overview of the concerns of those in the field and a layout of the book. Chapter 2, "Different pupils, different responses," discusses some of the differences that exist among students. These differences are listed as educational, psychological, physical, social, and cultural. Chapter 3, "Responding to pupil differences: some possible teaching tactics," is concerned with the teaching tactics that can be used to respond to the individual characteristics of pupils so that each can be helped to learn science effectively. Chapter 4, "Responding to pupil differences: some possible classroom strategies," discusses two different approaches: mastery and flexible learning. The final chapter, "Putting the ideas to use," links theory and practice so that readers will be better able to make use of the book in relation to their own teaching. (ZWH)
