The educational indicators in this report show how education systems in the 24 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) resemble each other and differ. This edition, the second, builds on the 1992 volume, with more up-to-date figures and coverage of a wider range of subjects and countries. The 38 indicators are grouped into the following categories: (1) demographic context; (2) social and economic context; (3) expenditure on education; (4) human resources; (5) participation in education; (6) decision-making in education; (7) student outcomes; (8) system outcomes; and (9) labor market outcomes. A statistical supplement adds additional tables, and five appendixes provide notes and technical notes, data sources, a glossary, and a list of participants. The report notes the need for sound initial education, better integration of academic and vocational education, the relevance of advanced education to the workforce, and the need for adult training. Seventy tables and 53 figures present data from the member countries. (SLD)
