Creating Prairie Cronies, Older Women's Network Project. Final Report.
Regina Univ. (Saskatchewan). Univ. Extension. Seniors Education Centre.
The Creating Prairie Cronies, Older Women's Network project was designed and implemented to research and address the specific needs of older women living in rural Saskatchewan. Project objectives included the following: promoting networking among and providing support for existing groups working to meet the health, education, and community development needs of older women in Saskatchewan; supporting partners and their existing networks; making use of existing health promotion and educational resources and developing new ones; and ensuring the input and involvement of older adults throughout all stages of the project. During the project, a total of 764 women participated in 28 educational workshops and regional gatherings designed to strengthen community networks that contribute to the well-being of older women. Other project activities included the development of life-cycle learning publications on the following topics: giving and taking care, older women and poverty, widowhood, and wise use of medication. Videos on older women and poverty and the celebrations and challenges of growing older as a woman in society were also developed. Although funding for the project has ceased, the network developed during the project remains very active. (MN)
