Vocational Education and the Challenge of Europe: Responding to the Implications of the Single European Market. New Developments in Vocational Education.
Funnell, Peter; Muller, Dave
This book examines the impact of the single European market (SEM) on vocational education in the United Kingdom. Part 1 consists of two chapters: "The Single European Market--Its Rationale and Consequences" (Peter Luff) and "The Single European Market--Uncertain Implications and the Vocational Educational Challenge" (Colin Hancock). Discussed in Part 2 are the following elements of a coordinated framework for meeting the challenge of the SEM: developing an educational strategy for Europeanization, promoting a curriculum response, delivering curriculum change, managing institutional change, and promoting human resource development. Part 3 contains the following case studies: "Developing a Curriculum Response: The Bachelor of Arts (BA) (Hons) Business in Europe Degree at Manchester Polytechnic" (Frank McDonald); "Developing a Coordinated Response in Further Education: The Cambridgeshire 1992 Project" (Brian Bonney); "Responding to the Free Movement of Professional Labour: Curriculum Developments in Diagnostic Radiography" (Geoff Bemrose, Christine Dobson); "Promoting Initiatives in European Partnership: The Workers' Educational Association" (Mel Doyle); and "Learning from Experience: A European Partnership in the Agricultural Sector" (Stefan Drew). Part 4 is a combination summary and prediction of what vocational education will be like in 2002 in an open Europe. Several chapters include bibliographies. (MN)
