This booklet is a collection of stories by people who have facilitated Personal Futures Planning groups. The groups provide an individualized, structured approach to life planning for people with developmental or other disabilities and have been implemented since 1988 in Minnesota. Introductory material describes the process, which starts when a focus person, people who care about the focus person, and a group facilitator come together to develop a Personal Profile of the focal person's history, relationships, strengths, and other aspects of that person's life. In ensuing meetings the group develops a vision of a desirable future for that person, the members make commitments to actions that could help realize that future, and members share ongoing successes and failures. The stories, all from the point of view of the facilitator, include case studies, anecdotes, and vignettes. They stress successful use of the method to solve problems, empower individuals and their families, and celebrate community life. (DB)
