Toward Teen Health. The Ounce of Prevention Fund School-Based Adolescent Health Centers.
Stone, Rebecca
Sponsored by the Ounce of Prevention Fund, this report presents a comprehensive look at three Toward Teen Health high school-based, adolescent health centers in Chicago, Illinois. Following a brief introduction, the report provides the rationale for opening adolescent health centers and outlines the principles that guide the centers. Next, a general description of the centers (located at DuSable High School, Rezin Orr Community Academy, and Crane High School) is given, including the centers' goals, physician coverage, available services, parental involvement and confidentiality, and staffing. A step-by-step narrative is given describing what happens when a student visits the center. Data are provided indicating the centers' progress in enrollment, utilization, and reduction in the risk of adolescent pregnancy and low birth weight. The report also includes descriptions of the centers' provision of services, presented in pie-chart format, as well as descriptions of special programs, administration, and funding. (MM)
