This document contains a curriculum for training people with disabilities and parents of young children with disabilities to become community leaders. The curriculum contains highlights of nine topical areas, including: the history and future of services for people with developmental disabilities; the history and future of self-advocacy; inclusive education; supported, competitive employment; whole life planning; service coordination; state-of-the-art technology; necessary supports for creating a positive home environment; and strategies for advocates and self-advocates. For each of the nine topics, information provided includes introductory statements, competencies, concept highlights, and a list of key readings. Part II is a bibliography of 150 items provides additional suggestions for readings grouped by the nine topical areas. An attached brochure describes the Partners in Policymaking training program.
