Nontraditional Employment Training (NET) Project Technical Assistance Package for Working with Unions.
O'Farrell, Brigid
These materials are designed to provide technical assistance to unions, prepare officers and members to work successfully with women who enter male-dominated occupations, and minimize the likelihood of sexual harassment and discrimination. Section 1, Guidelines, identifies problems and provides examples of programs and strategies that union leaders, labor educators, women's advocates, and researchers have found useful. The areas addressed include recruitment; training; assignment, promotion, and retention; and sexual harassment. Section 2, Resource People, provides information about teachers, trainers, researchers, and program staff who are involved in these issues and work with women and men at all levels of the labor movement. They include staff based in unions, universities, colleges, and independent educational and advocacy organizations. Names, addresses, as well as telephone numbers of resource people, and their areas of special expertise and available materials are included. Section 3, Resource Materials, is an annotated bibliography of books, reports, films, articles, and chapters focused on women and nontraditional semiskilled and skilled trades occupations, including apprenticeship and sexual harassment. The Montana State AFL-CIO Resolution in Favor of Women's Access to Nontraditional Jobs is attached. (YLB)
