A project developed and tested the instrumentation and procedures needed to assess students' mastery of guidance competencies as a result of their participation in the curriculum component of the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Program Model. The advice of a group of counselors, administrators, and counselor educators assembled in February 1992 in Missouri formed the basis for the instruments. The instruments--the Missouri Guidance Competency Evaluation Surveys for Grades 4-6, 6-9, and 9-12--were derived directly from the competencies contained in the guidance curriculum of the Missouri Model and used in the Missouri Comprehensive Student Needs Survey. In addition, the sampling procedures to establish the norms for the survey were identified so that beginning in the fall of the 1992-93 school year, norms and other psychometric data for the surveys could be established.
