This bibliography is an update of "Women and Geography: A Comprehensive Bibliography" which is published under the auspices of the Specialty Group on Geographic Perspectives on Women of the Association of American Geographers. Updates of the bibliography are issued annually. This bibliography project culminates more than a decade of research on the scholarship on gender issues that has been conducted by geographers. The original bibliography contains 658 entries, bringing together the published and unpublished research of 478 authors who are listed in an author index. Some 281 topics and geographical areas are examined and are listed in the subject index. This update contains 274 entries of works which examine gender considerations in human geography. Included are references to published articles in U.S. and foreign journals, books and chapters of books, and papers presented at professional meetings. The update is arranged alphabetically by author. Nationalities discussed include Norwegian, Filipino, Korean, Kenyan, Indian, Chilean, Russian, Austrian, Swiss, and German, among others. Works are included that deal with the problems of gays and lesbians in general, and gay and lesbian geographers in particular. The perpetuation of gender inequality and stereotypes is covered in several of the entries. Urban space, sex and violence, the changing job market, and gender demographics are other areas included. Many entries are about the status of women in developing nations of South and Central America or Asia. Some of the entries have a very brief description of the subject matter. (DK)
