Getting It Together: A Process Workbook for K-12 Curriculum Development, Implementation, and Assessment.
Carr, Judy F.; Harris, Douglas E.
One of the greatest dilemmas in grass-roots school reform is how local participants can take the initiative to construct new and more powerful educational environments for students. The 11 chapters of this book provide a "how-to" guide for curriculum dynamics development, implementation, and assessment. Chapter 1 offers guidelines for establishing a curriculum development, implementation, and assessment cycle. Chapter 2 provides suggestions for preparing for curriculum committee meetings. The third chapter presents guidelines for the committee chair in facilitating group dynamics, and the fourth chapter offers advice for making informed decisions. Recommendations for developing the K-12 curriculum guidelines are offered in chapter 5, and the sixth chapter describes how to publish and celebrate the curriculum development committee's document. Chapter 7 provides a blueprint for planning for implementation, and chapter 8 describes implementing the curriculum guidelines. The final three chapters address assessment issues--planning for curriculum assessment, designing the curriculum assessment, and conducting and reporting the assessment. Forty-six figures and numerous worksheets are included. (LMI)
