The workbook is designed to give students the basic information needed to conduct effective library research. It helps familiarize students with the Buffalo Information System ONline (BISON), as well as other sources, in print and online, that can be used to search for information. A worksheet is included for students to mark their answers to the workbook exercises and to demonstrate that they have completed the workbook. Workbook activities are coordinated through English classes. Searching for books and locating and identifying periodicals are covered. The emphasis is on the use of the Undergraduate Library at Capen Hall at the State University of New York at Buffalo, but the skills are transferable to other campus libraries, for which locations and purposes are identified.
