This study determined which professional periodicals were being read by elementary school classroom teachers, which sections they read, and whether or not their media specialists were instrumental in providing and promoting the periodicals. One hundred sixty teachers were selected to complete a survey questionnaire; 128 completed the survey. Teachers were selected from 31 Georgia elementary schools located in the Fulton County system. Results show that "Mailbox" was read in some manner by 89 percent of the respondents, while "Instructor" was read by 71 percent. Emphasis in reading focused on teaching articles, with 63 percent of respondents indicating a high interest. Seasonal instructional materials were also of interest, with 61 percent of the respondents having a great interest. Additionally, the survey found that media specialists provided periodicals in media centers and teacher workrooms. Promotion was done at grade level meetings in 57 percent of respondents' answers and at faculty meetings in 45 percent. It appears that elementary school teachers read a minimal number of and a limited amount in professional periodicals, but those that are read focus on practical ideas and techniques.
