Employability Skills for Students with Mild Disabilities: A Sequenced Curriculum Package for Teachers. Project WORK.

The Employability Skills Curriculum is a functional curriculum designed to help in teaching critical employability skills to students with mild disabilities. The curriculum sequence focuses upon the skills of getting a job and holding that job over time. The 65 lesson plans are organized into 13 units which cover: (1) preparing to look for a job, (2) discovering one's job interests, (3) finding out about job openings, (4) contacting employers, (5) the job interview, (6) handling paperwork, (7) characteristics of a good employee, (8) getting along with others, (9) job attendance and absence, (10) transportation to work, (11) managing personal finances, (12) making positive job changes, and (13) thinking about goals for the future. Each lesson plan includes a list of lesson objectives, an introduction, suggested activities, closure, and a list of materials needed. A large number and variety of handouts are included with the curriculum. (DB)
